Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Abdullah Stewart, 19, Tyrese Harris, 18 and Nathan Fluitt, 45, all from Newark, for an armed robbery that occurred on Thursday evening.
According to a press release sent by Newark Public Safety Director Ambrose, shortly after 9:30 p.m., a man, and a woman flagged down a passing police car and informed the officers that they were robbed by two men while walking in the area of Chestnut and Oliver Streets.
Director Ambrose said officers were notified that suspects fitting the same description had committed a robbery at Chestnut and Adams Street only minutes later.
In both incidents, the suspects fled in a black Ford Expedition Director Ambrose said.
Police observed the suspects occupying the vehicle and placed the men under arrest without incident.
According to Director Ambrose, officers saw a loaded 9MM handgun in the vehicle.
Director Ambrose said the gun is reported stolen out of South Orlando, Florida.
Police also recovered 14 zip-lock baggies of suspected CDS marijuana, 13 vials of suspected CDS crack cocaine and 15 glassine envelopes of suspected CDS heroin.
Stewart, Harris, and Fluitt are each charged with two counts of Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy.
Authorities also charged the men with CDS Possession (Marijuana, cocaine, and heroin), Receiving Stolen Property and Eluding.
Police issued the driver motor vehicle summonses for failure to observe a traffic signal, reckless driving, careless driving, and unsafe lane change.
The charges lodged against Mr. Pruitt, Mr. Harris, Mr. Stewart are merely accusations.
All of them are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
