A utilities worker suffered serious injuries after falling approximately 30 feet into an underground electrical vault while working in Newark Tuesday.
According to authorities, crews responded to Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences campus on Bergen Street at approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday, where an employee of Lighton Industries, fell into an underground electrical vault.
Crews - including close to 30 firefighters - performed a high angle rescue to remove the worker from the hole.
EMS transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition.
The incident is under investigation by Rutgers police and officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
