Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau is investigating an incident in which an off-duty Jersey City Police Officer fired at an unidentified male in the 200 block of South Clinton Street in East Orange at approximately 1:00 p.m. today causing fatal injuries.
According to authorities, at this time, no one is in-custody and there are no reported injuries to police officers.
As per Attorney General Guidelines, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standard Bureau must respond and investigate when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon on or off-duty.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
