City officials have confirmed an overnight carjacking that resulted in a shooting at a motel in the city.
According to officials, shortly after midnight police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out at the Spring Lane Motel on Rt. 1&9 in Elizabeth.
Officials said a 61-year-old man and guest of the motel was shot during an attempted carjacking by a suspect.
EMS rushed the man to University Hospital in Newark suffering two gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
Officials described the suspect as a 5'8 male last seen wearing a black or dark-colored hoodie when he fled on foot.
The victim was taken to University Hospital where the extent of his injuries have not been confirmed.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
