An early morning fatal crash on Route 35 in South Amboy has authorities investigating.
The accident occurred at around 2:35 a.m. in the 4200 block of the highway's northbound lanes where emergency responders were called to the scene for a crash with injuries reported.
Crews arrived at the scene to find two severely damaged vehicles with trapped an injured occupants inside.
According to reports, at least one victim was pronounced dead while a medivac helicopter airlifted one other person to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in stable condition.
Witnesses a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the highway caused the crash.
Several good samaritans stopped on the road to assist an injured woman out of the vehicle that was occupied by three people.
Police closed the highway for the crash investigation.
The cause is under investigation.
