An early morning house fire injured two firefighters while they battled the blaze in Garfield.
The two-alarm fire erupted inside a house located at 33 Banta Avenue at about 6:45 a.m. sending firefighters to the scene where they observed smoke and flames coming from the in the basement of the home upon their arrival.
According to preliminary reports, after firefighters made entry into the house and began to attacked the flames, the first-floor level collapsed, sending two firefighters into the basement. A “Mayday” was called prompting other firefighters to quickly assist.
The firefighters were removed and checked out by EMS for minor injuries.
The fire was placed under control in about a half-hour.
The cause is under investigation.
