Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of Justin Birdsall, 36, of Paramus, relating to charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child specifically for the possession of images and videos depicting child exploitation as well as the distribution of those images and videos.
According to a press release sent by authorities, on the morning of Tuesday, April 11th, 2017, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the home of Birdsall.
As a result, police seized items that contained images and videos depicting child exploitation the press release said.
The continued investigation revealed that Birdsall was using the internet to distribute and acquire images and videos of child pornography as well as utilizing a file-sharing program on his computer hard drive which made the pictures and videos readily available for others to download.
As a result of the investigation, Birdsall was arrested on Wednesday, in Paramus, and charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child for being in possession of videos and images depicting children engaged in prohibited sexual acts, a crime of the third degree; as well as one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child for Distribution of Child Pornography, , a crime of the second degree.
Birdsall is housed in the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at 1:30 p.m.
Prosecutor Grewal states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
