Fire officials in Irvington are investigating a fire that caused significant damage to a four-family duplex in the township this morning.
Firefighters were called to 114 Berkshire Place at around 9:30 a.m. where crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor of the two-story building.
Irvington firefighters, joined by Montclair and Maplewood fire companies, made entry into the house where a search for injured or trapped occupants were negative.
The blaze was placed under control in about an hour with more than two dozen residents displaced.
A female resident who lived in the house said the following, "I was just about to feed my youngest baby when somebody started banging on the door yelling fire. I just grabbed my son and ran. I don't know what I am going to do because my place in totally destroyed".
