A domestic violence incident that occurred overnight in Newark had police take the president of a Newark Labor Union in custody.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose Jerome Morgan, 60, was arrested at around 1 a.m. after police responded to a residence in the South Ward on a call of simple assault in progress.
A female victim allegedly assaulted by Morgan during a quarrel Director Ambrose said.
The victim was treated by EMS and Morgan officially charged with Simple Assault Domestic Violence.
Morgan was taken to the 5th precinct then transferred to Essex County Jail according to Director Ambrose.
Morgan is the president of The New Jersey (NJ) Civil Service Association (CSA) Newark Council 21 which is an employee-based organization of civil servants who work for the City of Newark according to the union's website.
The website said that the labor union advocates on behalf of their members to improve our work and the critical service they provide to the taxpayers of Newark.
The city also employs Morgan as a Senior Administrative Analyst according to records.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
