Bergen County authorities announced the arrest of Russel Joseph 37 of Englewood, NJ on charges of Sexual Assault by Sexual Contact, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
According to authorities, the arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of and the Englewood Police Department under the leadership of Chief Lawrence Suffern.
Authorities said, on Wednesday, April 5th, the Englewood Police Department and Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office conducted interviews based on an allegation that Joseph was engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a victim who was less than sixteen years of age in Englewood, New Jersey.
As a result of the investigation, Joseph was arrested on Thursday, April 6th in Paramus, New Jersey and charged with one count each of Sexual Assault by Sexual Contact, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Joseph was lodged in the Bergen County Jail pending his arraignment and is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court on Thursday, April 7, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.
Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Englewood Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
