New Jersey, meet 40-year-old Ms. D-Nice, a lifelong resident of Newark who currently resides in the city's North Ward.
Since 2012, D-Nice made a drastic shift in what she eats and her building of self-love for her appearance.
"I became depressed with the way I looked and wanted a change, but I knew that the change had to start with me wanting to make the transition to a better me," D-Nice said.
She joined a nationally recognized gym that focused on weight loss in Clifton, NJ in 2012 but noticed that the gym was just a part of the solution.
"I would go there to work out on this equipment at the gym, and all it did was tire me out, making me feel more miserable being there. I didn't see much change until I changed what I ate".
D-Nice gave up her love for processed food, soda, sugary drinks, and eliminated eating out but, cooked healthy vitamin enriched foods at home. Since 2012, D-Nice has lost over 200 pounds.
"It was a struggle at first because I had to tell myself that I couldn't have the things that gave me urges day after day. I took control of my mind which is the center of my will. I controlled portions and the type of foods that I ate. When I got urges for the "wrong" things that I use to love, I always had healthier snacks, fruits, and vegetables with me" D-Nice said.
Along with strong mind control, D-Nice contributes her success with daily exercise at the gym and engaging in her Piloxing class which is a combination of kickboxing and cardio offered by her gym. D-Nice also drinks apple cider vinegar every morning on an empty stomach which she says gives her that natural burst of energy to start her day.
"I did what was right for me by taking control of my mind. I encourage anyone to see your doctor for advice, join a gym, start off slowly, then, just do it".
D-Nice wants to thank her gym instructors, friends, and family for their encouragement and support.
Congratulations Ms. D-Nice
