This is a statement form the St.s Patrick's Day Committee:
"Friends, after consultation with the City administration, the Newark Police Department, the Grand Marshal, the Deputy Grand Marshal, parade day vendors and more, the Newark Parade will be postponed to Friday, March 24.
This decision is rooted in logistical concerns; for example needing space to erect reviewing stands along the sides of the Parade route and for buses to make already tight turns in the vicinity of the Assembly area.
But more importantly, the decision is for the safety and enjoyment of our supporters and spectators. Many of the streets and sidewalks -- particularly in the areas where the largest crowds gather to view our Parade -- are in no condition for anyone to enjoy the event.
We expect a similar schedule for Parade Day, March 24 -- if not exactly the same -- and will announce that as soon as possible".
