A woman who was wanted for a violent stabbing that occurred at an address in the city's East Ward has been taken into custody.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, police arrested Maria E. Arevalo, 47, of Newark, who was wanted for a stabbing that occurred on Friday, March 10th of this year.
According to Director Ambrose, at approximately 10 p.m., police responded to an East Ward residence and located a 49-year old man who had been stabbed.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment Director Ambrose said.
Detectives developed evidence that Maria E. Arevalo is a suspect in this stabbing and a warrant for her arrest was issued.
Detectives arrested Arevalo yesterday without incident.
She is charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
