An early morning armed robbery of a convenience store in Newark is under investigation.
The robbery happened at around 6:20 a.m. at the "Check It Out For Less" store located in the 400 block of Springfield Avenue.
According to reports, the owner of the establishment was attempting to open the store for the day when a black male suspect approached armed with a gun and shoved the owner into the store.
The owner reportedly fell to the floor when the suspect pointed the weapon at him and repeatedly demanded cash.
The suspect took cash, several packs of cigarettes, and other items from the store before running northbound on Holland Street.
The suspect was described as a black male approximately 5'6" tall weighing about 150 pounds according to reports.
He appeared to be around 35-years-old and was last seen wearing all black.
The owner did not suffer serious injuries.
