4-Alarm Fire Rips Through Multi-Family Building in Passaic

A 4-alarm fire that tore through a multi-family building overnight in Passaic has fire officials investigating.

Firefighters were called to the 90's block of Gregory Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. after receiving several emergency calls reporting a fire inside a building with trapped occupants.

Crews arrived at the scene noticed heavy fire coming from the lower level of the four-story building (later identified as 99 Gregory Avenue) beginning to extend to the upper floors according to reports.

Firefighters were able to make entry into the building where a search had no injured or trapped occupants.

Wayne, Wallington, Hackensack, and Haledon were some of the fire companies that provided mutual assistance during the fire.

More than a hundred people were provided temporary shelter.

Two firefighters were taken to an area hospital suffering minor injuries.

The fire was placed under control in about an hour, and the cause is under investigation.
