UPDATE: Linden Authorities Capture Burglary Suspect

Linden

Authorities in Linden are reporting the arrest of a suspect has been identified in connection with a Feb. 17 burglary that occurred in the 600 block of Ercama Street.

According to authorities, this morning, 23-year-old Plainfield resident Dawud Ward was arrested following a weeklong investigation led by Detective Kevin Mikolajczyk.

Ward, who was incarcerated at Essex County Jail on unrelated charges, was charged with 1st degree robbery, 2nd degree burglary, and 3rd degree making terroristic threats authorities said.

He remains in custody at Union County jail following a Superior Court appearance scheduled earlier this morning.

A composite sketch of the suspect was made by the New Jersey State Police Forensic Artist Unit, and within hours of its release Ward was identified.

“Detective Mikolajczyk did a great job leading this investigation, and we would like to thank the members of the media and our community who shared this sketch,” said Detective Captain William Turbett, who commands the Linden Police Investigative Unit.

“We were confident that we would find this suspect because of how detailed the sketch was. Fortunately, we were able to get the right people to see it, which is undoubtedly the reason we were able to make an arrest so quickly.”
