A Union County grand jury has returned a 12-count indictment against three men accused of fatally shooting a Plainfield woman last year, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Wednesday.
Gquan Johnson, 18, Raequon Segers, 19, and 22-year-old Anthony Baines, all Plainfield residents, are charged with first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, and two related weapons offenses in connection with the death of 24-year-old Neelega Perry.
Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of a body in the rear yard of a home on the 400 block of Spruce Street in Plainfield late on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 found Perry, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Jillian Reyes, who is prosecuting the case.
A subsequent investigation involving the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Identification Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit resulted in the three defendants being identified as suspects, Reyes said.
Johnson was arrested in late September 2016, with Baines being apprehended in early October 2016 and Segers taken into custody approximately a week later.
All three were lodged in Union County Jail, with bail set at $1.5 million for Johnson and Baines and $1 million for Segers.
Convictions on charges of first-degree murder are commonly punishable by 30 years to life in state prison.
