Police Investigate Stabbing Incident in Downtown Newark

Police in Newark are investigating a Thursday evening stabbing that caused injuries in the city's downtown.

Reports of a physical altercation sent several police units to the 800 block of Broad Street, near Branford Place, shortly before 7 p.m.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find two male victims bleeding heavily after being stabbed several times at that location.

The victim were rushed to University Hospital where the extent of their injuries were reported as serious but stable according to reports.

Authorities said that the incident was isolated as they attempt to determine who was the aggressor during the altercation.

Police detained both participants of the stabbing.

In a separate stabbing incident that happened in the city's West Ward, police were called to the area of 18th Avenue and West End Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. after they received reports of a person injured.

Arriving police and EMS units found the victim suffering a stab injury at that location according to authorities.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in an unknown condition.

One person was detained in the in the stabbing authorities said.
