Two Jersey City men were taken into custody after they were linked to two diversions burglary scams in Bloomfield and Nutley, police said.
According to authorities, Wando Delmaro, 58, and Michaelangelo Costello, 31, were taken into custody after Bloomfield detectives tracked a vehicle used Friday on Mountainview Avenue burglary in Nutley.
Police obtained security footage that showed the pickup's license plate which was tracked to a Jersey City address where the pair was ultimately arrested.
Delmaro and Costello would pose as utility workers and would tell residents that they needed to check pipes for a possible water leak, according to police.
Once inside the homes, one of the men would distract the resident while the other would go around the home searching for jewelry and other valuables.
Residents are reminded to contact police before allowing workers inside their homes or to report any suspicious activity.
