Authorities in Newark announced that their Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Jose L. Rodriguez, 29, who was wanted for a North Ward shooting and Jihad Rudd, 29, who was wanted for an armed robbery, in two separate incidents. Both men are from Newark.
According to authorities, at approximately 3:50 p.m., on Monday, January 30, 2017, a 23-year-old Newark man was shot at the Stephen Crane Apartment Complex.
The victim was shot after being approached by three suspects.
He was transported to University Hospital for treatment of his injuries and released.
Based on their investigation, detectives determined that Jose L. Rodriguez is a suspect in this shooting and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Detectives arrested Rodriguez today without incident.
He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapons Possession.
According to police, on Feb. 10th, at approximately 4:30 p.m., an 18-year old male victim was threatened with a knife then robbed at gunpoint on 17th Avenue in the Central Ward.
The victim’s cash and personal items were stolen.
As a result of their investigation, detectives determined that Jihad Rudd is a suspect in this robbery.
A warrant for his arrest was issued and detectives took Rudd into custody today.
He is charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
