Mercer County Employee Charged with Perjury, Tampering with Public Records

Trenton

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported today that an investigation conducted by his Economic Crime Unit (ECU) concluded last week with the arrest of an employee of the Mercer County Board of Social Services.

ECU initiated an investigation approximately three months ago after receiving information that Sherley Gaie potentially perjured herself during a Family Court proceeding.

The investigation revealed that Gaie submitted falsified documents to the court reflecting that her salary was less than what Mercer County records indicated.

She also advised the court that she did not receive Social Security benefits for her disabled son when in fact she did. Gaie also provided the court with a falsified document supporting this claim.

Gaie, 44, of Trenton, is charged with one count of third-degree perjury, two counts of third-degree tampering with public records, and two counts of fourth-degree forgery.
