A man who climbed who exited a window of a hotel and stood on the ledge in a possible attempt to jump sent emergency responders to the downtown Newark location.
According to a statement released by authorities, officers from the 3rd Precinct rescued a 19-year old victim who attempted suicide today.
According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police officers responded to the Robert Treat Hotel at 50 Park Place on a call of a trespasser.
Officers located the victim who had climbed onto a ledge outside a hotel room window on the 9th floor according to authorities.
The officers rescued the victim by grabbing him and pulling him through the open window authorities said.
The owner chose not to press charges against the victim who EHMS transported to University Hospital for crisis observation.
“I am proud that these officers were able to rescue the victim and pull him to safety successfully,” Newark Public Safety Director Ambrose said.
“This may have ended tragically if not for the skillful actions of these officers who risked their lives to save one.”
The incident remains under investigation Director Ambrose said.
