A shooting that involved a police officer sent one person to the hospital early this morning in Newark.
Details regarding the incident are continuing to developing but according to preliminary reports, at around 1:30 a.m., police responded to the 600 block of South 11th Street where they attempted to stop a vehicle when the driver of the vehicle reportedly attempted to run the officer over.
At least one of the officers fired his weapon at the vehicle according to reports.
The car sped away from the scene and was later located at University Hospital with a victim suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot injury.
It is not immediately clear how many times the victim was shot at this time.
There were no physical injuries to any police officers.
Springfield Avenue is closed from South 12th to Blum Street and may affect your morning commute.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was on the scene conducting the investigation.
