A wild, high-speed early morning pursuit of a vehicle that began in Newark, ended when the suspects bailed from the vehicle on the Garden State Parkway near the East Orange-Bloomfield border.
Police began to follow a suspicious vehicle in the city's North Ward that broke several traffic violations and refused to stop when officers attempted to pull it over.
The vehicle, which was reported as a white Lexus with an NJ license plate number **"N82-HHG"**, raced away from officers down Bloomfield Avenue and into downtown Newark according to reports.
Police immediately notified NPD1 who swiftly responded and began to follow the vehicle that began to make its way from the downtown and onto the southbound lanes of Rt. 1&9 towards Elizabeth.
According to initial reports, the suspected vehicle detoured off of the highway and onto the Haynes Avenue exit where it sped through several of the city's South Ward communities, ultimately ending up near the Western Parkway northbound ramp of the Garden State Parkway through Irvington.
With Newark Police units keeping a safe distance and NPD1 Helicopter tracking overhead, the suspected vehicle barreled it's way through the northbound lanes where it began to slow down just past exit 145 in East Orange near the Bloomfield line.
Newark officers contacted The NJ State Police and Bloomfield Police when suspects jumped from the vehicle and sprinted away from the scene reports said.
The area was blanketed with police, from several agencies, where they searched on the ground and from high up, but as of 1 a.m., officers did not apprehend the suspects.
It is not clear if police ever made arrests.
The incident remains under investigation.
