Police took two men into custody and charged them with possessing a weapon in Newark's South Ward overnight.
According to authorities, police arrested Corey Davis, 27, and his brother, Ralph Davis, 31, both of Newark, for gun possession.
Police said at approximately 12:25 a.m., a traffic bureau officer was patrolling the area of Yates and Seymour Avenues when he heard a gunshot and observed two suspects in the area from where the gunshot had come.
Police said they heard Corey Davis toss a loaded .32 caliber handgun to the ground and his brother, Ralph, was seen attempting to hide an imitation firearm in the wheel well of a parked SUV.
Both men were arrested authorities said.
Corey Davis is charged with Unlawful Possession of an imitation firearm.
Police said Ralph Davis is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (defaced firearm) and Discharging a Weapon within the City Limits.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
