An early morning crash that caused a vehicle to overturn in Clifton left one person dead and several others injured according to authorities.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of Rt. 46 approaching Rt. 21 at around 5:10 a.m. sending emergency responders rushing to the scene after receiving reports of a crash with several trapped occupants inside of a vehicle.
Clifton's firefighters arrived to find a badly damaged and overturned vehicle with at least three people trapped inside the vehicle according to preliminary reports from the scene.
Crews were able to swiftly get everyone out of the vehicle but not before one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victims were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson suffering serious injuries reports said.
There was one other vehicle reportedly involved but it is not clear if there were injured occupants from this vehicle.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
