Man Accused of Assaulting, Robbing Woman in Newark, Arrested

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Keyshawn Holston, 18, of Newark, for a robbery that occurred on Saturday, December 17, 2016.

Officers responded to the area of Somerset Street and Muhammad Ali Avenue on a call of an assault at approximately 9 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 22-year-old female victim who told them she was approached by a male suspect who offered to sell her an iPhone. As the victim attempted to walk away, she was chased by the suspect and a group of males who assaulted her with an object and robbed her of her purse and other personal items.

The victim was transported to University Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.

As part of their investigation, detectives determined that Keyshawn Holston is a suspect in this assault and robbery.

A $95,000.00 arrest warrant was issued by the Honorable Roslyn Holmes-Grant, J.M.C., and Holston was arrested today without incident.

He is charged with robbery, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and assault.
