A 54-year-old New York driver has been charged with killing a 63-year-old Demarest man as he was walking.
According to reports, police responded to Madison Avenue near Van Horn Street at about 8 p.m. where a person had been struck by a Toyota Prius that fled the scene.
A volunteer firefighter, who witnessed the crash, assisted the victim until medics arrived.
The victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation into the incident ultimately lead to the arrest of Cheewah Wong, 54, who reportedly stopped briefly and checked on the victim before fleeing the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
