Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Markques J. Winstead, 23, of Newark, for CDS possession and distribution last night.
Authorities said, at approximately 9:35 p.m., members of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau were canvassing the area of Mapes Avenue and Osborne Terrace when they observed a group of several males gathered in front of a residence.
As detectives approached to investigate, Winstead ran, tossing a black bag before being apprehended. Officers located the bag, which contained 5 clear bags of suspected CDS marijuana.
Winstead also had 43 glassine envelopes of suspected CDS heroin, one clear plastic bag containing suspected CDS heroin and $180.00 in cash on his person. He was arrested without further incident police said.
Winstead is charged with Possession of CDS (marijuana and heroin), Possession of CDS with Intent to Distribute, Distributing CDS Within 1,000-feet of a School, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing the Administration of the Law.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
