A double shooting in two city streets left one man injured Thursday evening, authorities said.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. last night, Plainfield Police Central Dispatch Center received an alert from the ShotSpotter system, indicating that gun shots had been fired in the area of Garfield Avenue and East 2nd Street. Along with this alert, we also received numerous calls from citizens stating the same.
Plainfield Police units responded to the area and discovered a victim, 23-year old male man who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, and is listed in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation by the Plainfield Police Division Detectives indicates that this was not a random shooting.
City detectives are following up on leads at this time.
Shortly after the previous incident another ShotSpotter alert was received by Central Dispatch indicating gunshots being fired in the area of the 600 Block of West 3rd responded to this area to find that no victims were struck as a result of this gun fire.
Detectives are continuing to investigate this case as well.
At this time the preliminary investigation being conducted by City Detectives does not appear to indicate that the two shootings are connected.
