Overnight Three-Alarm Fire in Orange Displaces a Dozen Residents

A three-alarm fire that ignited in side of a house in Orange left several people displaced.

Heavy fire tore through a vacant three story house located at 197 Chapman Street shortly before 2:45 a.m. sending firefighters to the scene were crews noticed flames coming from the roof of the structure.

Arriving crews, with assistance from several municipalities, attempted to prevent the fire from spreading to an occupied home just next door but were unsuccessful.

About a dozen people who lived in the occupied home were provided temporary shelter after the blaze destroyed their home leaving it inhabitable.

Frigid temperatures and snow hampered firefighters ability to bring the fire under control quicker.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
