An overnight shooting in Newark left one person dead and detectives searching for the killer.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Virginia Street shortly before 9 p.m. sending police to the scene where officers arriving to the scene located the male victim laying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive according to reports.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police set up a crime scene in the area where they found shell casings and other evidence.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were on the scene conducting the investigation.
