A Plainfield resident has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting a man in the city earlier this month, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Tuesday.
Khasim Green, 37, is charged with first-degree murder and two related weapons offenses in connection with the death of Al-Muakhkhir Kearney, 35, of Newark.
According to authorities, shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 1st, Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of an unresponsive male on the 100 block of Netherwood Avenue in Plainfield found Kearney at that location.
He was rushed to JFK Medical Center in Edison, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
A joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit resulted in Green being identified as a suspect in the case, and he was arrested without incident Monday afternoon. Bail was set at $1.5 million by state Superior Court Judge Frederic R. McDaniel.
Anyone with information about this matter still is being urged to contact Homicide Task Force Sgt. Johnny Ho at 908-403-8271 or Detective William Guy at 908-347-2212.
Convictions on murder charges are commonly punishable by 30 years to life in state prison.
