Authorities Make Second Arrest in Trenton Murder

A second man has been arrested in connection with the August 2016 murder of 32-year-old Jonathan Jimenez, Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.

Freilyn J. Delacruz, 36, of Trenton, was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to police, on Aug. 5th at approximately 10:30 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the area of 35 Cummings Avenue on the report of a shooting in progress.

The victim, later identified as 32- year-old Jimenez, was found lying in the street unconscious and unresponsive, suffering a gunshot wound through the chest.

Jimenez was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Mercer County Prosecutor’s Detective Kevin Searing, Detective Sergeant Jeremy Stewart of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Service worked for months attempting to locate Delacruz after warrants were issued in August for the homicide.

He was discovered earlier this week in Mexico, arrested and deported.

Delacruz was taken into custody in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday pending extradition to Mercer County.

Bail on the homicide was set at $750,000 cash or bond.

Co-defendant Alberto A. Perez was arrested in August for the murder.

He remains in the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $750,000 cash or bond bail.
