DEVELOPING ORANGE NJ: Body of Female Found in Abandoned House in Orange

The body of a female found inside an unoccupied house in Orange has city and county investigator's on the scene.

Details regarding the findings are developing, but residents in the area said that shortly before 11:30 a.m., police were called to the area of Highland Avenue and Berkeley Avenue for suspicious activities.

Units arriving to the scene located the body of a "female" inside the house at that location residence said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene and appeared to be leading the investigation as our crew arrived on the scene.

We are awaiting information from authorities at this time.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

UPDATE 3:34 p.m. STATEMENT FROM PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE:

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Orange Police Director Todd Warren have announced that authorities are investigating the discovery of a dead body in a vacant home earlier today.

Authorities said at approximately 10:35 am, Orange police officers were dispatched to a vacant home in the 300 block of Highland Avenue on a report of an unresponsive person.

Arriving officers discovered the body of an unidentified female inside the building, according to Chief Assistant prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:22 am.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, according to Fennelly.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force and the Orange Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
