Newark Police are seeking the public’s help identifying the below pictured suspect in a jewelry store robbery yesterday.
According to police at approximately 11:44 a.m., Newark Police responded to a call of a robbery in progress at Vinhas Jewelers Inc., located at 197 Ferry Street.
Police said a male suspect entered the store, approached a salesperson and requested to see Cuban gold chains.
After the clerk produced the chains, the suspect brandished a gun and demanded that his fanny pack be filled with gold chains.
Police said after retrieving the filled fanny pack, the suspect fled on foot, discharging the handgun in the direction of the storeowner, who attempted to follow him outside.
The suspect then stepped in front of a beige 2006 Nissan Altima, pointed his handgun at its female driver and ordered her out of the car on Polk Street.

The carjacking victim complied and the suspect fled in her car, which was later found abandoned in the area of Somme Street and Raymond Boulevard.
The suspect is a white or Hispanic male who may have a tattooed “sleeve” on his right arm depicting flames near his wrist.
While police are actively searching for the suspect, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from our streets.
This investigation is active and ongoing.
