Violent Carjacking Ends in Pursuit, Crash, Apprehension of Several Suspects in Newark

A violent carjacking that occurred overnight led to swift police action and the arrest of several suspects in Newark.

According to initial reports, at around 9 p.m., a female driver of a white 2006 BMW 5-series was approached by at least two suspects who were armed with a gun in the teens block of Reynolds Place and demanded that she hand over keys to the vehicle according to eyewitnesses.

The woman complied and the suspects sped away from the scene the witnesses said.

A call to 911 had police dispatch the vehicle's identification city wide prompting officers, who were on patrol, to spot the vehicle in the area on Clinton Avenue and Thomas Street a short time later according to reports.

Police followed, in an attempt to pull the vehicle over, when it refused to stop and sped off reports said.

The vehicle came to a crashing halt near the intersection of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Madison Avenue with several suspects bailing from the vehicle.

With police officers engaged in a foot pursuit, cops captured about three suspects a short distance away.

EMS assisted several non-life threatening injured victims of a civilian vehicle that was involved in the crash.

The incident is under investigation by Newark Police.
