Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Daquan Berger, 23, of Newark for a carjacking that occurred on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
According to police, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 31-year old male located his stolen vehicle in the area of Evergreen Avenue and Hanford Street.
The victim had reported the vehicle as stolen from Bergen and West Runyon streets a week earlier.
When the victim entered the vehicle, the suspect opened the passenger side front door, brandished a handgun and demanded that he get out.
As a result of their investigation, detectives determined that Daquan Berger is a suspect in this carjacking.
On Monday, November 28, 2016, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers observed the carjacked vehicle, driving without headlights, in the area of Bergen Street and Renner Avenue.
A motor vehicle stop was conducted and Berger was arrested without incident.
Berger is charged with Carjacking, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
