Newark --Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating a fatal police shooting in Newark.
Authorities said at approximately 4:30 pm,'Newark Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Alexander Street and 18th Avenue.
The encounter resulted in two males being shot.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the other victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he is in critical but stable condition.
Their names are not being released at this time.
Under state Attorney General guidelines the Essex County Prosecutor's Office must respond to all police involved shootings.
The facts surrounding the shooting are being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
