A three-car crash this morning sent a man to the hospital causing a tube of the Lincoln Tunnel to be shutdown.
According to Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo, shortly before 8:30 a.m., a Mendez Trucking Kenworth dump truck hit a BMW SUV that was traveling in the New Jersey-bound north tube of the tunnel. The SUV subsequently rear-ended a sprinter van.
The occupant of the SUV was treated and released from Hoboken Medical Center after complaining of chest pains.
The dump truck was issued five citations, including out-of-adjustment brakes, over gross vehicle registered weight, over allotted axle weight, ABS malfunction indicator lighting, and failure to correct equipment defects.
The tube was reopened at approximately 9:50 to all traffic.
The crash remains under investigation.
