Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that police are seeking the public’s help identifying the below pictured vehicle in connection with a possible kidnapping -abduction that occurred today.
Police said at approximately 9:21 a.m., Newark Police responded to Mulberry Street and Edison Place on a call of a male physically forcing a female into a vehicle and driving away.
Police are investigating the incident and have determined that victim was walking south on Mulberry Street when the pictured van, traveling north on Mulberry, stopped at Edison Place.
The victim approached the passenger side of the suspect’s vehicle and spoke briefly with the male driver.
When the victim walked away, the driver exited the van, directed the victim to get into the vehicle before pushing her into the passenger side of the van.
The male got into the driver’s side, made a U-turn and drove south on Mulberry Street onto McCarter Highway.
The suspect is a black male, approximately 6-foot, 2-inches tall, wearing a white shirt, black jacket and blue jeans or dark colored pants.
While police are actively searching for the victim and the suspect, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating either of them and ensuring the safety of the female.
This investigation is active and ongoing.
