Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announces the arrest of Earl T. Williams, 32, of Newark, for weapon possession and drug distribution on Monday.
According to authorities, at approximately 10:24 p.m., detectives patrolling the area of Morris and Westfield avenues observed Williams removing glassine envelopes from a fanny pack worn around his waist and accepting cash from individuals who approached him.
Detectives from the 1st Precinct approached and the suspect attempted to flee. Williams was apprehended, but struggled with detectives until he was arrested and handcuffed.
Williams was found in possession of a loaded .45 caliber handgun, 170 glassine envelopes of suspected heroin and 30 vials of suspected cocaine.
He is charged with Possession of a Weapon While Distributing CDS, Possession of CDS, Possession of CDS With Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS Within 500-ft. of Newark Public Library, Possession of CDS Within 1,000-ft. of a School, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Certain Persons Prohibited From Weapon Possession.
