Police in Brick are searching for man accused of dragging an officer approximately 50 feet after he tried to pull him over.
According to police, yesterday at approximately 10 p.m., Sgt. Erik Olsen conducted a motor vehicle stop on a beige BMW 740I in the area of Harris Avenue just off Burnt Tavern Road.
The driver - who was identified as John Carter, 34, of Brick - was instructed by Sgt. Olsen and Patrolman Ryan Talty to exit his vehicle because of two outstanding warrants from the Brick Township Municipal Court.
Carter refused to exit the vehicle and locked his driver side door. Sgt. Olsen in attempts of pulling the inside door handle to open the door, stuck his arm through the open driver side window. However, Carter put the vehicle in drive and accelerated causing Sgt. Olsen’s arm to become stuck in the window frame, dragging Sgt. Olsen approximately fifty feet before he was able to free himself.
Carter fled the scene toward Prospect Avenue.
Attempts to locate him have been negative to this point.
Sgt. Olsen had an injury to his arm but refused medical treatment.
The following charges were signed against Carter, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Assault, Obstruction of Justice, Hindering Apprehension, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Disregard of a Stop Sign and Maintenance of lamps.
Bail was set on these charges in the amount of $75,000 full by Brick Township Municipal Court Judge Joseph Grisanti.
Carter is currently still wanted and police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to please contact the Police Department at (732)262-1100.
