Orange Man Arrested for Drug, Weapons Possession in Newark

Newark authorities announced the arrest of Yasin Calloway, 25, of Orange for CDS distribution and possession of a loaded 9MM handgun today.

Police said at approximately 1:50 a.m., members of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau (S.E.B.) responded to the area of Johnson Avenue and Stratford Place on a call of a man with a gun.

S.E.B. detectives observed a suspect fitting the description of the individual with the gun while canvassing the residential building where he was last seen police said.

The suspect, wearing a black fanny pack, fled and dropped the bag when detectives approached him. Detectives found a loaded handgun, 204 containers of suspected CDS (cocaine) and $520 in cash in the fanny pack.

Calloway was arrested without incident.

He is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (handgun), Possession of a Weapon While Committing a CDS Offense, Possession of CDS (cocaine), Possession of CDS (cocaine) With the Intention to Distribute, Possession of CDS (cocaine) With the Intention to Distribute Within 1,000-ft. of a School, Possession of CDS (cocaine) With the Intention to Distribute Within 500-ft. of Public Park, Obstructing the Administration of the Law, Resisting Arrest by Flight and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
