Police arrested a man who was committing armed robberies with a toy gun in Newark's South Ward yesterday morning.
According to initial reports from the scene, at around 10:50 am, a call came into police reporting an armed robbery in the 200 block of Elizabeth Avenue.
Several police units, who were on patrol in the area, were approached by the victim, who reported that a male suspect, last seen wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans, pulled a gun on him and demanded personal possessions according to reports.
The victim was able to keep an eye on the suspect as he sprinted away from the scene on foot the victim said.
Fast responding officers arrived moments later where they focused their attention near the Popeye's Chicken restaurant where the victim told them that the suspect was last scene walking.
As cops cautiously approached the area, they immediately observed the suspect toss what appeared to be a fire arm to the ground reports said.
Police moved in on the suspect, quickly placing him in handcuffs.
The recovered weapon was a very realistic looking toy gun reports said.
Police believe that the suspect is wanted for at least two other robberies that occurred in the early morning hours.
There were no physical injuries reported
