Police in Newark arrested an Irvington man who robbed a woman near a Newark bank early this morning.
Police took Farrod Baker, 24, of Irvington, into custody on a charge of receiving stolen property today.
According to police, at approximately 5:08 a.m., a 20-year old female victim reported that she was robbed at the Bank of America branch located at 1 Springfield Avenue by two black males who stole her cell phone, bank card, and other personal items.
Police said, as part of their investigation, detectives called the victim’s cell phone. It was answered by a suspect who arranged a meeting for the sale of the phone.
Detective responded to the meeting location in the area of South 16th Street and 15th Avenue.
Upon locating an individual fitting the description of the suspect, police found Farrod Baker in possession of the victim’s cell phone, bank card and other personal items.
He was arrested without incident police said.
This charge is merely an accusation.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Police said the second suspect remains at large.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
