Police in Newark arrested a man who they said committed a violent stabbing in the city on Friday according to a press release retrieved from authorities.
According to police, **Brandon W. James, 35, of Newark,** was apprehended in connection with the aggravated assault stabbing.
Police said, at approximately 8:39 p.m., officers patrolling the area of Chadwick and Clinton avenues were approached by a 26-year old male who had been stabbed in his midsection.
The victim stated that he was also being chased by the person who stabbed him authorities said.
Arriving officers reportedly observed the suspect with a knife in his hand and when the suspect became aware of police presence, he fled on foot while tossing the knife police said.
The suspect, identified as **Brandon W. James,** was apprehended and arrested without further incident.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
James is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
