A Newark Health Department worker who was gunned down outside of the Newark Heath Department Building has authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office searching for the killer.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which an individual was fatally shot late Friday afternoon in Newark, NJ.
Police said at approximately 4:30 p.m., Newark police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Williams Street after several rounds of gunfire rang out in the area surrounding Arts High School and the Newark Health Department, off of Shipman Street.
Arriving officers located Davion Jackson outside at this location suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Jackson was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
According to sources, Jackson was a full time employee for the City of Newark who was moved from Neighborhood Serivces to Medical Records inside the Health Department building.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department..
The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
