UPDATE: Drug Dispute Ends in Arrests, Weapon Thrown into the Passaic River

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced the arrest of Angelo Tolentino (photo 1), 21, of Belleville, and Edgar J. Delgado, 18, of Newark, in connection with a shooting incident resulting from a dispute during a marijuana purchase on Monday, October 17, 2016.

According to police approximately 7:00 p.m., police responded to the area of Emmet Street and Avenue C on a call of a shooting in progress.

Upon arrival, officers located the two men, who were both suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Tolentino was found near the intersection of Goble and Thomas streets and Degado was located on Orchard Street.

Both men were transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Police said as part of their investigation, detectives have determined that an altercation ensued between the men over the selling price of marijuana.

During the incident the two men shot one another, Tolentino armed with a 9mm handgun and Delgado .32 caliber.

Detectives are searching a portion of the Passaic River after learning that a relative of Tolentino’s is alleged to have thrown his gun into the river.

Police arrested both Tolentino and Delgado today and charged each with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Additional charges are pending.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
