Several Newark Police officers are being commended the afternoon after chasing down and apprehending a man wanted for allegedly robbing a supermarket in the city's South Ward.
According to to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, officers arrested **28-year-old Newark resident Jwuan Bowles** for Robbery, Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.
Director Ambrose said at approximately 7:00 a.m., Bowles entered a supermarket located in the 200 block of Lyons Avenue and announced a robbery.
A fast reacting employee reportedly activated a panic alarm which prompted an immediate police response Director Ambrose said.
As 5th Precinct Officers arrived, they observed Bowles running from the store and apprehended him after a brief foot chase.
Bowles is charged with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.
These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Ambrose commended the actions of the responding officers, who’s quick response enabled to them to capture a fleeing robbery suspect who would have continued his actions if not apprehended.
